My name is Ramon, and I’ve been working full-time as an all-round Dutch Sign Language interpreter since 2004. Before that, I was a teacher at a school for deaf children (Effatha, grade 8 in Voorburg). I didn’t grow up with deaf parents myself, but I learned sign language when I was 20 – and I haven’t stopped since! 📜 Specialization in Legal interpreting In 2006, I obtained my SIGV certificate, which specializes in judicial interpreting assignments, including both civil and criminal cases. Since 2009, I’ve also been a certified interpreter, so I’m authorized to interpret at official events such as: – buying a house at the notary’s office – discussing a will – signing a cohabitation agreement 🕌 Experience in Religious Contexts I’m proud of my extensive experience in Islamic gatherings. I regularly interpret at national and international conferences with imams, sheikhs, and other speakers from countries such as Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Protestant, Catholic, and Hindu gatherings are also no problem for me. I easily adapt to different situations, both in terms of language and dress. 🌍 Flexible and internationally available For special events or multi-day interpreting assignments – domestically or internationally – you can always contact me. My schedule is flexible, so I’m often available at short notice. 🗣️ Multilingual Interpreting I can also interpret from sign language to spoken English and vice versa (spoken English to Dutch Sign Language). Please discuss this with me. 💒 Life Events I have extensive experience interpreting at funerals, cremations, and weddings – from Christian to Muslim and Hindu. I understand how important these moments are and ensure I adapt to the situation. 🎵 Please note: I do not perform music interpretation services, but I do perform funerals in consultation with you. 🏥 Medical Situations I am also available in healthcare: for GP appointments, hospital check-ups, births, or even surgeries. 🧏♂️ Collaborating with Deaf Colleagues In recent years, I have regularly collaborated with Deaf interpreting colleagues, for example, in conversations with Deaf refugees in asylum centers. I then interpret in a team (a deaf colleague and myself) for organizations such as the COA, the Dutch Refugee Council, the police, the Royal Military Police or the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND).
