Our Story.

From a small gathering to a thriving network…

In 1997, five interpreters came together with a shared goal: to create a space where interpreters of colour could support one another and be seen. What started as a small group sharing experiences has grown into a professional network connecting interpreters across the UK and beyond.

Our story isn’t just history, it’s about the ongoing journey to make the interpreting profession inclusive, supportive, and equitable.

Why we exist

Interpreters of colour often face unique challenges in the profession. Our network exists to:

  • Support interpreters in their careers
  • Connect peers across regions and languages
  • Amplify voices that are underrepresented

This is more than a membership; it’s a community where your experiences are understood, your skills celebrated, and your voice heard.

Our milestones

Our mission today

We continue to:

  • Create safe, inclusive spaces for interpreters of colour
  • Provide professional development and training opportunities
  • Advocate for equity, visibility, and recognition within the industry
  • Foster community, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing

Our history guides us, but our eyes are firmly on the future, building a network that empowers every interpreter of colour to thrive.
